A vision for Barnham Cross
You’ve told us what matters to you in Barnham Cross, and we want to bring that vision to life. In our survey and at the events we held last year, you told us what you like and what could be better. We heard what you told us about your hopes for your community and we put these together into this: a vision for Barnham Cross.
Turning your vision into reality
Last October we held a series of community workshops on the estate, and lots of you came to share your thoughts with us. We're really grateful that you continue to share your thoughts with us. It’s already helped us understand more about what you’d like from Barnham Cross:
- To be clean, tidy and cared for
- Improved garage sites
- Better car parking
- Less anti-social behaviour
- More opportunities for local people
- Facilities for young people in the community
All this, and more, will help Barnham Cross be a great place to live that makes the most of the natural environment, with a choice of good quality homes that meet the needs of people living there.
At these community workshops, we asked you to place flags onto a map of Barnham Cross to show us where you think things like new houses and community green space could work, and where better parking, safer streets, and more lighting are needed.
Your flags showed us that better parking, improved amenities (play areas, community facilities, or green spaces), and new homes matter most to you, but also that better lighting, safer cycle and pedestrian routes, and tackling antisocial behaviour are important too.
Here's what you said you'd like to see:
Quality homes
We know how much of a difference this makes to everyday life. This could mean:
- Views overlooking the community spaces
- Homes with gardens
- Better energy efficiency
Community safety
Barnham Cross should be a place where everyone living there, or just passing through, feels safe. This could include:
- Play areas and equipment
- Fewer cut throughs
- Places to grow food
Better parking options
You told us how important it is for you to have a safe place to park your car, and that you'd be open to removing the garages. These ideas could involve:
- Streets that are safe and open
- Well-planned street parking
- Better lighting
You said, we're doing
Before and after! One thing you told us was that you wanted the state of the garages in Barnham Cross to be improved. We listened to what you said, and we’ve removed some garages in poor condition on Fir Road.
We hope this will reduce some of the problems that you’ve told us garages can cause, like anti-social behaviour and fly-tipping.
As part of our next workshop events, we can think about how this space could be used better in the future.
