The first homes in an £11 million development in mid-Suffolk are being completed.

Housebuilder Flagship Homes – part of Flagship Group - plans to open a marketing suite at the site, called The Fields, off Turkey Hall Lane in Bacton, on May 31.

The first eight of the development’s 51 homes are due to be finished by then, with the rest to be completed in phases by spring next year.

Peter Waplington, senior development project manager, said quality and space set The Fields apart.

Mr Waplington said: “The site boasts an impressive hectare of open space, which is very rare for a four-hectare site.

“The street scene from Turkey Hall Lane was carefully designed to showcase the variety and quality of the materials used on site.

“A lot of work and consideration has been given to the scheme's design to make this site stand out.”

A large wildflower meadow sits at the front of the site, and there is another public open space further back, which includes footpath links to the nearby St Mary’s Playground.

The main road through the site has been named after Edwin Castell, a man from the village who served in the Royal Army Medical Corps in France and Flanders in the First World War.

Amanda Crichton, Flagship Homes head of sales and marketing, said: “We’re looking forward to opening to the general public, and we’ve been really pleased with the interest so far.

“People are not just buying a home, they’re buying a lifestyle here. They’re buying into the community and everything that’s going on in Bacton. You’re not far at all from the A14 but you have a really lovely village feel with a lot of facilities.”

Bacton has a pub, a grocery store, a garage, a doctor’s surgery, a primary school, a football club and a brewery.

Many homes at The Fields are being sold on the open market, while others are for shared ownership or affordable rent to be managed by Samphire Homes, one of Flagship Group’s three housing associations. There is a mix of two to four-bedroom homes and bungalows.

Shared ownership is a scheme that allows people to gradually buy a home with a far smaller deposit than on the open market.

Mildenhall-based builders Cocksedge is the main contractor on the project.
