Housing provider plants 80 trees in one day to help offset carbon emissions
As part of a green initiative to reduce Flagship Group’s environmental impact, 80 trees were planted across the eastern region today, representing each member of the Group’s cyclical team. The aim is to have planted one tree per staff member over the next five to ten years, to offset the Group’s carbon footprint.
About 40% of the UK’s total carbon footprint comes from the built environment. RFT, the Group’s repairs and maintenance specialists, improve and maintain over 22,000 homes throughout the East of England. Trish Worden, Head of Cyclical Works for RFT said. “As a Group, we’re passionate about reducing our environmental impact. And, as a team, we felt like we could make a real difference. Everyone is talking about how they want to help the environment, but we can get out there and do something practical, fairly quickly”.
Flagship aim to replace as many damaged, dying or dead shrubs, bushes and hedges as possible. Maple, Birch and Crab Apple are just a few of the trees planted to enhance communal areas, provide habitats for wildlife and offset CO2 emissions.
Additionally, RFT has replaced all petrol-powered tools with battery power to reduce noise and air pollution. They have also swapped their plastic mop heads with microfibre which will last six times longer and reduce waste.
