Flagship staff donate over £10,000 to St. Elizabeth’s hospice
On Monday 27 January, staff from our Riduna Park Office attended St. Elizabeth’s hospice, Ipswich to present a cheque for over £10,000 in the memory of their late colleague, Melvyn Mayhew.
Since Mel sadly passed last year, Flagship staff, along with his family have worked together to raise money for the hospice through fundraising activities, such as a Hawaiian-themed party, leg waxing and an 80s disco.
Over £5,000 alone was raised by staff at our Riduna Office, and an additional £1,000 by Marie-Claire Delbrouque (MD Flagship Homes) and Vicki Tischler (Operations Manager Flagship Homes) for their participation at the Great East Run.
Housing Officer, Rosalie Wilkinson who attended the presentation said she misses Mel's "humour, quick wit and smiley face. He has left a big hole in the company, but we wanted to do something to make it more positive.
In the office, Ipswich-born Mel Mayhew was known to his colleagues as a hard-worker who never stopped smiling - but at home, he was the father who gave his children the world.
Mel's son Tom, who also attended said: "My dad was a really happy-go-lucky guy, he'd always do his best for other people rather than for himself. "He helped run the local rugby team, football team, cricket team, the youth club - he was very much about doing his best for everybody else.
"It's nice to know his memory is still alive at Flagship - the fridge in their office is still covered with pictures of him."
Fundraising activities will continue to take place, and anyone wishing to donate can do so through Mel’s ‘Just Giving’ page here.
