Flagship Group’s drive towards a greener, brighter future has put it in the running for a top national award for the second consecutive year.
The largest housing provider in the east of England, Flagship has been shortlisted in the Environmental Fleet of the Year category at this year’s Fleet News Awards. A finalist in the category last year the organisation won the ‘highly commended’ trophy, coming second to overall winner Royal Mail.
Flagship is one of six finalists, with others including Royal Mail and energy providers OVO and SSE.
Payroll and fleet manager Cathy Wilson was buoyed by the recognition and the acknowledgement of Flagship’s efforts towards sustainability.
She said: “We’re still on track for our car fleet to achieve net zero by 2027, which will be three years ahead of the national goal of 2030.
“It’s a testament to the hard work and change embraced by the entire organisation as we push towards these net zero targets.”
Ms Wilson said making it to the finals of the awards for the second year in a row was great recognition for Flagship’s shift to a ‘green’ housing provider.
Flagship has increasingly shifted its fleet to electric vehicles (EVs), with a 40 percent increase in the last two years. Over 98 percent of its cars, on fleet or ordered, are now either EVs or PHEVs (plug-in hybrids), compared to 57 percent in November 2022 and 89 percent 12 months ago.
In November 2024, Flagship's fleet comprised 328 cars including 97 EVs, 187 PHEVs, 38 multi-hybrid cars (MHEVs), one petrol, and five diesel. This also includes five EV vans, and two PHEV vans.
The company has also continued to support staff in the EV transition through contributions of £850 towards the cost of at-home EV charging points, given to employees classed as ‘essential users’.
Ms Wilson said: “We’ll continue to work with our drivers, paricularly those who cannot charge at home, and their managers to find bespoke solutions that work both for the business and for each individual's personal preferences. We’re really honoured to be included in the shortlist for this award.”
The Fleet News Awards will take place at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on 12 March.
