Flagship Group has made a promise to residents of the Abbey estate in Thetford ahead of consultation beginning on proposals for the estate.

‘Our Promise to You’ has been sent to every home and outlines commitments Flagship is making on how it will engage, consult, and support the community in the coming months and years.

It includes principles around meaningfully consulting residents, ensuring no-one is worse off financially as a result of any proposed changes, and extra support and help for older and vulnerable residents. 

Flagship have also emphasised that they will make no profit from any future plans, and any surplus would go towards providing more homes for people in need.

The promise is based upon priorities identified in feedback from residents and it seeks to underline the strength of Flagship’s long-term commitment to the community.

James Payne, Regeneration Director, explained: “Working with our partners, we are here for the long-term to support, engage, and collaborate with local people. We want to emphasise this to residents through Our Promise to You document.

“Through our promise, we want to reassure people about what we will do and how we will work together with them.  This promise has been very much informed by what residents have told us matters to them.”

Although detailed plans are not yet in place, the promise also provides an overview of what different members of the community might expect if plans go ahead.

James added: “We are planning on starting consultation in the next few weeks and we will be writing to everyone with some options and ideas, letting them know of all the ways in which they can have their say, including online and in writing.

“The options we will be putting forward have been informed by feedback and ideas that residents have been sharing with us over the last 18 months.

“Through our consultation, we want to ensure that everyone in the community knows how to share their views, and feels able to have their say.”

Since 2019, Flagship Group has been having conversations with residents of the Abbey. This has included seven in person drop-in sessions – with the last one pre-pandemic attended by over 100 people; two online polls, and resident 121s take place.
