Flagship Group awarded part of £13.9 million Heat Network Efficiency Scheme grant funding

Flagship Group has been awarded funding as part of £13.9 million of capital and revenue grant funding awarded to local authorities, housing associations and private sector applicants in the first Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) funding round.

The funding will be used in the Group’s ongoing project at Munhaven Close in Mundesley, Norfolk. An optimisation study is being carried out to examine what measures can be implemented to increase the efficiency of the heat network for the benefit of our 22 tenants there, which this funding will significantly support.

Heating Delivery Manager Tabitha Organ said: “We are very pleased to have been awarded the funding for the study as this will help to inform us on the efficiency measures we can carry out going forward, not only on this site but on all our other heat network sites too, to make them more energy efficient and reduce carbon emissions.”

Heat networks are a type of heating system technology that aim to deliver more efficient and lower cost heating, cooling, and hot water. The aim of HNES is to “improve heat network performance in existing/operational projects where customers and/or operators are experiencing sub-optimal outcomes” (Gemserv press release, 26 September 2023).

The HNES is part of Government plans to address the cost-of-living crisis by enhancing the energy efficiency of heating networks, and by doing so ensure customers are getting value for money as well as adopting more environmentally friendly heating technology.
