A man who has no close relatives has donated most of his belongings to charity.

The 78-year-old, from Dereham, wanted to give away 20 coats as well as shoes, tinned food and other items as he was moving into a care home in Swaffham and did not have anyone else to pass them on to.

The man was a Victory Homes tenant. Dawn Ribardo, a Victory tenancy support officer, said she worked with colleagues to carry out his wishes.
Mrs Ribardo said: “He had no friends or family to assist with clearing his property, and wished for items to go to charity. I worked with the social worker to identify items that he no longer needed and utilise them elsewhere.”

She said many items, including the coats, were donated to Dereham Aid Centre for distribution to those in need around the town and in Norwich.
Medical supplies were donated to the centre’s appeal for Ukraine, and several high-vis jackets were given to Dereham Community Litter Pickers.
The man's white goods were gifted to other Victory tenants.
The Dereham Aid Centre was set up in 2022 to support displaced Ukrainians, and it now provides clothes, food and other support to the wider community.
