A message from our CEO: Black Lives Matter

Friday is the day we would normally look back at the positive events that took place throughout our working week. Something that has helped put a smile on our faces during this torrid time. This week we have decided there will be no happy news, as I ask all Flagship colleagues to take the opportunity to think about the trauma, hurt, and outrage at the senseless killing of George Floyd in the United States, and the much longer history of racism throughout the world.

The painful past of racism is sadly still with us today - not only through violence, but in the everyday experience of deeply rooted discrimination. I cannot overstate how important it is that we provide unequivocal and unwavering support for the black community at this time.

At Flagship, we stand together with the BAME community, we’re an ally and a friend. We provide homes for people in need, regardless of their race, gender or sexual orientation. We strive to be fully inclusive and know that diversity makes us stronger.

We will not tolerate racism or hatred in any form. Today, and every day, there is a need to show solidarity and unity, and all of us have a role to play in this. Flagship has been built on a foundation of mutual respect, and we will do all that we can to create a positive environment for everyone.

With Covid-19 still knocking at our door, this is a moment when many people may wish for nothing more than for our world to return to normal. George Floyd’s death is tragic proof that we must aim for a much better “normal” and build a future with the highest standards of equality and justice.

For those of you at Flagship hurting from this, feeling tired, angry or confused, you are not alone, and I want to assure you that our Board, senior managers and colleagues will support you, today, tomorrow and always.  It is now more important than ever to talk to one another, and to find healing. We must all take responsibility for creating a better and fairer world.
